Act Kie

We are based in Ehime, Japan, and are dedicated to promoting a lifestyle that is “in balance for both people and nature.” Centered on the scents of forest and citrus, we develop fragrances that carefully bring out the unique qualities of local botanicals, while also operating an aroma school.

We place great importance on building relationships with local farmers and distillers across the region. By visiting production sites and engaging in ongoing dialogue, we ensure traceability, respect for origin, and consistent quality in our materials.

Our approach emphasizes the thoughtful use of regional resources and the creation of a sustainable cycle through fragrance. Through this work, we aim to deliver aromas that gently connect the gifts of plants with human sensory experience.

Kie IYOKAN essential oil is distilled from the peel of Iyokan grown in Ehime, Japan, a region widely known as one of the country’s leading citrus-producing areas. Iyokan is a representative citrus fruit of Ehime, valued for its well-balanced sweetness and acidity, and for the refreshing aroma released when the peel is freshly removed.

This essential oil was developed over more than three years with the aim of recreating the vivid scent of freshly peeled Iyokan. It features a bright and multi-layered aroma, combining sweetness, juiciness, and a subtle bitterness.

The oil is produced from pesticide-free Iyokan peel grown in Ehime. After harvest, each fruit is carefully hand-peeled. We sometimes work alongside local farmers during harvesting, maintaining a close connection to the origin and background of the materials.

To share the sensory experience and joy of the aroma released when freshly picked fruit is peeled, we also organize community peeling events with local enthusiasts, allowing participants to engage with and understand the essential oil production process.

Distillation is carried out in collaboration with a local distillery using a traditional copper still and steam distillation method. The resulting oil evokes the experience of peeling a fresh Iyokan right in front of you, delivering a vivid and juicy fragrance.

From a compositional perspective, this essential oil is characterized by limonene as its main component, along with approximately 2% linalool—also found in lavender—and trace amounts of linalyl acetate. These components create a unique balance, where the freshness of citrus is complemented by a soft and comforting nuance.

Produced only in limited quantities, this rare essential oil is appreciated and continuously used by professional aromatherapists and enthusiasts.

To honor the gifts of nature, the fruit is processed into syrup after peeling, and the aromatic water (hydrosol) is also utilized, ensuring that nothing goes to waste.

We also conduct component analysis to ensure quality and safety. Looking ahead, we aim to expand production in a sustainable manner while maintaining our commitment to quality.
